Who & How I Work

Dorood and Welcome...

Who & How I Work

I work with people who are becoming more aware that something in their life is ready to shift. Some arrive with questions; others carry a hope for a life that feels lighter. Many are ready to soften the weight they’ve been carrying, merging past experiences into something easier to hold.

Here, we explore at your pace, gently, openly, and without pressure, allowing space for clarity, healing, and new ways of being. You are welcome here, simply as you are.

My practice is grounded in respect, compassion, and openness. I welcome individuals of all backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, and identities, including those who are LGBTQ+ and those whose lives are guided by faith or spirituality. Each person’s story is held with care, kindness, and dignity, so you can feel safe, supported, and truly seen.

Now is the time to live in the present—not dwelling in the past or projecting into the future—for this moment is your life. _Hafez

Ways of Working Together

Person-Centred Counselling

Person-Centred Counselling

Person-Centred Counselling

Rooted in the work of Carl Rogers, this approach rests on a simple truth: healing often begins in the quiet moment when someone truly feels heard. I listen with empathy and without judgment, holding open space for your story so that your wisdom and clarity can emerge gently.

Hypnotherapy

Person-Centred Counselling

Person-Centred Counselling

I am trained in client-centred hypnotherapy, drawing on the Ericksonian tradition. This trance-based approach is deeply respectful of your pace and unique experience. It can be highly effective in creating lasting change, helping you access inner resources and states of awareness that everyday thinking can’t always reach. In this space, it often feels like opening a door to your natural capacity for healing.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Person-Centred Counselling

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Through creativity, using words, images, movement, or sound, we can explore parts of ourselves that ordinary conversation may not touch. Sometimes a brushstroke, a gesture, or a line of poetry can hold feelings that are difficult to express in other ways. This playful yet profound process honours both heart and body, inviting new forms of expression, insight, and balance to arise.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Together, we work with practical steps to notice and untangle unhelpful thoughts, bringing clarity to the present moment. With small, purposeful shifts, deeper changes can gradually grow, supporting emotional resilience and a greater sense of inner steadiness.

Additional Practices

When it feels supportive, I may also weave in complementary practices such as mindful stretching, Tai Chi–inspired movements, Reiki, EFT tapping, or simple breathing techniques. These gentle methods help reconnect body and mind: a slow stretch or flowing movement can restore grounding, Reiki offers a quiet way of tuning into your energy, and tapping or breathwork can ease stress and create calm. Used thoughtfully and only when appropriate, these practices offer subtle yet powerful ways of returning to balance and presence in our time together..

Mapping

During the process of note-taking in sessions, a creative approach began to emerge, shaped by my background in art and expressive arts therapy. Over time this evolved into Mapping  a visual way of laying out thoughts and feelings so that underlying patterns and emotions become easier to see.

Clients often find this process especially engaging, and many describe it as one of the most helpful parts of our work together. Mapping offers clarity, curiosity, and fresh perspective, all while staying collaborative and tailored to each person’s pace.

My Story & My Path…

My counselling path began long before my formal training. From an early age, life gave me experiences that shaped my ability to listen deeply, notice what is unspoken, and hold space for others with care. Over time, I learned how to uplift myself without carrying the full weight on my shoulders, to care deeply and have empathy while honouring my boundaries. Living in harmony with these boundaries has become a quiet strength: I center myself, know my power, and offer support without losing my balance.

I was fortunate to train with David MacMurray Smith in a Pochinko-inspired approach that weaves together mask, movement, self-discovery, and more. For me, the “mask” became a profound way of exploring the layers of self, the emotions, roles, and faces of personality and character that emerge in different moments of life. Each exploration was an awakening, revealing the stories I carried, the patterns I repeated, and the untapped possibilities within me. This work continues to guide me today, shaping the way I support clients as they gently uncover their own layers, step into new ways of being, and keep becoming. For me, “becoming” is a never-ending journey, rooted in curiosity, in not having all the answers, and in staying open to what is yet to be discovered.

I was a bookworm in my younger years, drawn to art, philosophy, literature, and especially Persian poetry. I read widely from great authors and poets, seeking to understand what they offered the human spirit. All those pages led me to one truth: life is not always fair and can be hard, yet we can choose to follow our power, stand up, stay resilient, and keep moving toward our dreams.

I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (ACCT). My education includes diplomas in Counselling Therapy and Counselling Hypnotherapy from the Orca Institute, a two-year Expressive Arts Therapy program through Langara College, and additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and somatic awareness. I also hold formal Reiki training and integrate complementary practices such as Tai Chi, EFT Tapping, and gentle breathing techniques when they feel right for the client.

Before private practice, I worked for years in Vancouver’s public schools supporting children, youth, and families, deepening my understanding of emotional development, cultural transitions, and identity formation. Earlier in life, I studied Graphic Design at Tehran University, where I learned the art of visual storytelling, which still weaves into my therapeutic work today. In every session, I combine creativity, empathy, body–mind awareness, and evidence-based approaches to create a space where healing, clarity, and change can unfold naturally.

If you have more questions or would like to know more, please feel free to reach out Info@happynations.ca I’d be happy to connect with you directly.

What happens in a session?

Each session is a calm and private space where you are listened to with care and respect. Together, we explore what feels most important in your life and gently navigate the path forward. My training and experience provide a range of supportive approaches from which we can draw, but your pace, needs, and story always shape the session.

How do I know if we’re a good fit?

You should feel heard and understood, like you’ve stepped into a space that belongs to you. Our first complimentary 30-minute consultation is a chance to meet, ask questions, and see how it feels to work together. If it’s not the right fit, I’ll do my best to suggest other resources or referrals.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends entirely on your goals and preferences. Some people benefit from short-term support, while others choose ongoing sessions. We’ll review your progress regularly and adjust the plan so it always feels right for you.

Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

Yes. Sessions are available online (secure video) or by phone. In-person appointments are available by request.

What if I need help between sessions?

Life doesn’t always wait for our next scheduled session. If something important comes up, you’re welcome to reach out by email or text. While I don’t provide therapy through messages, I do offer a brief 15-minute check-in for non-emergency, stressful moments where it may feel helpful to talk with someone safe and grounded. In these times, we can pause together and gently explore the next step that feels most supportive for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. This helps me manage my schedule and keep appointments running smoothly. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be billed at the full session rate.

Do you offer hypnotherapy for quitting smoking or other habits?

Yes. Hypnotherapy can be very supportive in changing patterns such as smoking or other habits, though every person’s experience is unique. My role is to create a safe, respectful space where you can access your own inner resources for change. In our complimentary consultation, I’m happy to answer your questions and give you a sense of what a session may feel like, so you can decide whether this approach feels right for you.

What if I’m part of a small community and worry about privacy?

Your privacy is always respected. Everything you share in session remains confidential, unless required by law for safety reasons. As a counsellor, I also follow clear ethical guidelines around boundaries in the community. If we were to see each other in public, I would not approach you first. This protects your privacy and ensures that you choose whether or not to acknowledge our connection. This way, you remain in control of what feels comfortable and safe for you, both inside and outside the counselling space.

What if I’ve never tried counselling before?

It’s completely normal to feel unsure about starting counselling. You can think of our sessions as stepping into a safe, supportive space, similar to talking with a trusted friend, but with professional guidance and confidentiality. You are never pressured to share anything you don’t want to. We move at your pace, and my role is to listen, support, and offer perspectives that help you connect with your own wisdom and direction.

How much does a session cost?

My standard fee is $130 for a 60-minute session. I also offer a complimentary consultation, so you can get a sense of how I work before committing. A limited number of reduced-rate sessions are available, especially for students, single parents, or others experiencing financial hardship. Please feel free to ask me about this option. Many extended health plans cover counselling with a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC); I encourage you to check directly with your provider.

How private are our sessions?

What you share in session is kept strictly confidential. The only exceptions, as required by law, are if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if a court orders records. These limits are rare, and I will always explain them clearly if they ever arise.
